Palmwoods Community Kindy Fair

The second annual Palmwoods Community Kindy Fair is a fun family day out with an indigenous welcome, local stall holders, children’s arts & crafts, food vendors, locally sourced entertainment and attractions. This year in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Naming of the Sunshine Coast there is an art project called “50 years of the Sunshine Coast” conveying the joy of living on the Sunshine Coast.

Our Sunshine Coast Concert

Our Sunshine Coast Concert is a community concert in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Naming of the Sunshine Coast.

This community event draws together local artists and community groups to create an outstanding event and musical experience to commemorate this historic occasion. Bring a blanket to this free, family-friendly event and enjoy kids entertainment and activities. Then sit back and imagine a 100-piece orchestra, 200-voice choir plus 100-voice children’s choir and dancers – conducted by Kim Kirkman. The performances will include a Beatles medley, original songs written to celebrate the occasion and the epic Carmina Burana by  Carl Orff. With special performer and MC Darren Percival and local heroes throughout the afternoon.

Join us at the Sunshine Coast Stadium on Sunday 6 August with gates opening from 1 pm. Performance times 2-4pm. This event is free. Food and drinks will be available to purchase.

Sunshine Coast 50th Anniversary Women’s Cup

As the Leader of Women’s Aussie Rules Football north of Brisbane, the Maroochydore Roos AFC are hosting an annual Cup, engaging the community in the celebration of the Sunshine Coast 50th Anniversary Women’s Cup. The first of an Annual Cup event features as part the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Naming of the Sunshine Coast The game leaves its legacy, becoming a permanent feature fixture of women’s season. Each year highlighting the intense rivalry of the Women’s Senior teams in the league.

This year the rivalry between the Maroochydore Women’s Senior team and the University of Queensland Women’s Senior team will be on show from 5.45pm. Ensuring the whole family are entertained, the women’s U13’s and U17’s games will also feature along with the club’s two Senior men’s teams.

Sunshine Coast Connections – Discover, Create, Celebrate

This region-wide series of events highlights the unique coastal, creek and marine environments of the Sunshine Coast. DISCOVER more about local environments and wildlife through interactive workshops and learn how you can get involved in citizen science. CELEBRATE the inspiring wildlife and environments we live, work and play in. You’re sure to find an activity that suits you with this series of catchment crawls, eco safaris, mystery eco tours, art projects and marine discovery days.

Sunshine Coast Antique Car Club

The Sunshine Coast Antique Car Club was formed in 1963 to foster preservation of our motoring heritage. The Club provided an avenue for sharing of information by the owners of veteran and vintage cars and encouraged their restoration and preservation. It was also intended to interest and educate the general public by participating in displays, rallies and charitable events.

On at the Nambour Showgrounds. $5 entry fee per person.

Sunshine Coast Showjump and Equestrian Club

The Club was formed in 1996 by a local group of equestrian enthusiasts. Since then the club has steadily grown and now has over 300 members and regular competitors.The club runs a jump club at Nambour Showgrounds and hosts shows all year round. This event can be seen at Nambour, Coronation Ave between 8 am and 3 pm.

From the Mountains to the Sea Exhibition

a showcase exhibition part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations for the naming of the Sunshine Coast. This collaborative exhibition focuses on broad Sunshine Coast historic themes, drawn from multiple museum collections, extending beyond local history over the last 50 years. The exhibition includes community memories compiled from heritage film footage donated by the community and from the Heritage Library archives and a commissioned film that looks at creative landscapes on the Sunshine Coast through the eyes of contemporary artists, authors and architects.

From the mountains to the sea: Sunshine Coast Stories is proudly supported by the Sunshine Coast Council Cultural Heritage Levy and can be seen at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Caloundra Quilt Show

Caloundra Arts Centre Association strongly promotes the opportunity to display members’ work and with over 120 members in the Caloundra Quilters’ group there will be an impressive display of quilts of all designs and techniques, both traditional and contemporary, large and small. A spectacular show is promised with this year’s theme being “Circles of Friendship”. Members are asked to expand their horizons and respond to the challenge of making a small quilt in that theme. These quilts will be on display and visitors are invited to vote for their favourite. Refreshments and merchant stalls also.

Caloundra Film Festival, the film festival partner for Horizon Festival, has a program of features, documentaries, short films and a student showcase which features the outstanding creative work of their up and coming film makers from throughout the entire region. Now held in multiple locations over one week is September, the Caloundra Film Festival hosts film events in Caloundra and Nambour, hosts a pop-up cinema in Moffat Beach and has something for everyone.
